Jack
Preliminary Notes
This post is really just me talking about Jack The Ripper from the show Record of Ragnarok.
This may be jumbled and could be difficult to read however thats never my intentions.
I refer to Jack with she/her pronouns throughout this.
I love to share about Jack a lot and I love to learn about her more so my conversations a lot of the time somehow lead to her. Despite this sometimes I feel as though I reiterate the same points again and again to people just so they have a general understanding of what I'm talking about. There's nothing necessarily wrong with this it just feels boring for those who've already seen this information when I restate it to others who have not.
I really enjoy that while the other characters in Record of Ragnarok are supposed to be the real historical figures even if these portrayals are highly fictionalized. I especially love how out of all of the characters Jack does not fall under this at all. In Record of Ragnarok the name Jack the Ripper is only what she chose to be called. Jacks real identity while unknown is also known as Mr. Anonymous. This information is revealed in her side story so unfortunately a lot of people go on not knowing this information. I find it an appropriate touch for her to not by technicality be the real Jack the Ripper because the identity of Jack the Ripper is unknown and is always highly theorized on who Jack the Ripper actually was and is sometimes theorized to be multiple different people. This information really makes me wonder why there are people who are upset that our Jack isn't the real Jack the Ripper. To me she is just as much deserving of the title of Jack the Ripper as Luke Evans who was considered the one responsible for the real Jack the Ripper murders.
Its a bit ironic? that Jack stole the name of Jack the Ripper to me primarily because her first two victims were her mother and more important to this point her father, Jack Smith.
I find it interesting how her character is portrayed. Outwardly she is seen to be very gentlemanly and I would even say kind. However, there are moments where it shines through that she is a murderer and enjoys seeing people in fear! One example I automatically go to is when Jack first meets her valkyrie, Hlokk. When she first attempts to volundr with Hlokk she gets down on one knee and extends her hand to Hlokk. Despite this Hlokk actively refuses to do volundr with her due to her identity. This causes Jack to strangle Hlokk to get her to volundr. This feels like a nice contrast between two sides of the same person.
My Ending Notes
While these are not the full extent of my thoughts it is what I could conjure up and as I continue to think about her I will likely create new posts or edit this one.
